  • It means that instead of viewing people who are neurologically different (Autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, DCD) as somehow disordered or broken, we view them as perfectly valid human beings. Instead of thinking that neurodivergent people’s differences need to be “fixed” or that they should at least appear “more neurotypical” or “normal”, we believe that they deserve care and support which values and accommodates for their differences. The neurotypical majority within society, and therefore psychology, have rarely viewed the neurodivergent minority in this way, and this has had very negative consequences for their wellbeing and chances in life. By providing neuro-affirmative psychological services, we hope to reverse some of these trends and make more room for neurodivergent needs, perspectives and experiences.

In practice this means that we understand how damaging the use of medical or deficit-based language can be, and so we adopt a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach instead. We are also proud to be active members of the neurodivergent community and to have neurodivergent individuals on our team. We celebrate all neurodivergent individuals’ experiences while also appreciating the challenges that they are faced with.

  • A consultation is your chance to meet with a member of the team to explore your reasons for seeking therapy, ask any questions you have about the process, consider what you’d like to get out of it, and also see whether you feel you can work effectively with your assigned team member. If you feel you would be better suited to working with somebody else, your preferences will always be accommodated.

  • Sessions take place either online via Zoom or in person in Dublin City Centre. Whether you attend online or in-person depends on your preferences, availability, and the availability of your team member.
